Can you do the main Weathering With You locations in one day?

Yes. Tokyo has many places connected to Weathering With You, but chasing every screenshot across the city quickly turns the day into a checklist.

This guide instead builds one practical trip through five stops that capture the film’s Tokyo: the Weather Shrine in Koenji, the crowded streets around Shinjuku O-Guard, the quiet slope beside Tabata Station, the rooftop sanctuary of Asahi Inari in Ginza, and finally the open waterfront at Odaiba.

Officially associatedThematic stop

Weather Shrine, Koenji: Start With the Weather Itself

Begin at Koenji Hikawa Shrine, home to Kisho Jinja — the Weather Shrine. The official Weathering With You site documents the film’s lead actors visiting Japan’s Weather Shrine for a hit-prayer program, giving this stop a direct official connection to the film without claiming it as a confirmed background model.

Important weekend train note: JR Chuo Line Rapid trains do not stop at Koenji on weekends and national holidays. Use the JR Sobu / local service instead.

The shrine is about a two-minute walk from JR Koenji Station. Current worship hours are early morning to 5:00 p.m.; the office is generally 9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m., but check the official site if you specifically want a goshuin or charm.

Shinjuku O-Guard: The Rainy Tokyo Section

From Koenji, move into Shinjuku and let the route become louder. Rail infrastructure, traffic, large signs and crowded pavements make this one of the strongest places to feel the film’s version of rainy Tokyo.

Do not turn Shinjuku into six separate location cards. Experience it as one compact walking cluster around O-Guard, Kabukicho and Seibu-Shinjuku.

Safety: Never step into the roadway for a recreation shot. Keep cycle paths and busy pavement clear.
Optional scene break

McDonald’s Seibu Shinjuku Ekimae

If you want one short scene-specific pause, the current official store is at 1-24-1 Kabukicho and lists hours of 7:00 a.m.–midnight. Treat it as a quick scene break, not the pilgrimage centerpiece. If it is crowded, continue to lunch.

Food / rest · Shinjuku

Take a real lunch break

Tempura Shinjuku Tsunahachi Sohonten Annex

The purpose of lunch is to make the route easier, not to manufacture another anime connection. The original Sohonten entered rebuilding work in 2026; the current Annex is the updated nearby option.

Allow: 45–60 minutes · Budget: roughly around ¥2,500 depending on your order.

Tabata: Let Tokyo Get Quiet

After Shinjuku, Tabata is the reset. Kita City material identifies the road along the cliff immediately outside the South Exit as a Weathering With You location.

Manners: Keep voices low, do not block the narrow route, and do not photograph homes, nameplates, windows or residents as scene props.

Strong visual matchRooftop shrine

Asahi Inari: Hidden Above Ginza

Asahi Inari has a worship hall on the first floor and a main sanctuary on the rooftop of the Daiko Asahi Building. The rooftop torii and shrine are strongly associated with the film’s rooftop-shrine concept.

Current access: 1F worship hall 7:30 a.m.–6:00 p.m.; rooftop main sanctuary 10:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. If the elevator to the eighth floor is stopped, rooftop worship is unavailable.

Do not confuse buildings: the official shrine site warns visitors not to confuse the Daiko Asahi Building with the neighboring Ginza Asahi Building.

Weekend goshuin / amulet reception closure is not the same as a blanket weekend closure of general worship.

Odaiba: End With Sky, Water and Space

Do not end this pilgrimage in another alley. From Ginza, travel to Shimbashi and take the Yurikamome toward Odaiba. Elevated tracks, Tokyo Bay and wider views replace the dense streets from the morning.

Odaiba Seaside Park gives you room to look at the sky. Rainbow Bridge, Tokyo Bay and the waterfront create a satisfying ending whether the weather is blue, gray or somewhere in between.

Best window: late afternoon into early evening. This is a flexible experience recommendation, not a promise of a perfect sunset.
Weather switch

What if it actually rains hard?

Light rain can improve this pilgrimage. Heavy rain can ruin it.

Drizzle / intermittent showers

Keep the main route, carry a compact umbrella and enjoy the wet-road atmosphere.

Heavy rain / thunder / strong wind

Shorten Shinjuku, skip outdoor photo waits, use trains, and treat Odaiba as optional if waterfront conditions are unpleasant.

The goal is to experience the film’s Tokyo, not to prove that you can endure unsafe weather.

Changed locations

Do not follow old pilgrimage guides blindly

Yoyogi Kaikan — demolished

The abandoned building strongly associated with the film no longer exists. Do not send your day toward Yoyogi expecting to photograph the old structure.

Roppongi Hills Rooftop Sky Deck — closed to the general public

Tokyo City View officially ended general-public operation of the outdoor Sky Deck in 2024. The indoor observation deck still operates, but it is not the same experience and is not used here as a paid replacement.

Best conditions

When should you do this route?

Best thematic conditions: light rain or a clearing day.

Best comfort: spring and autumn are easier for a full-day route.

Closest film atmosphere: summer brings humid air, dramatic clouds and sudden rain, but Tokyo heat can make a 7–8 hour day much harder. Use more indoor breaks and carry water.

Best finale light: late afternoon or early evening at Odaiba — a broad window, not a minute-by-minute sunset target.

Travel manners

These locations are part of everyday Tokyo

  • Keep shrine entrances and worship space clear.
  • Do not photograph people praying at close range.
  • Do not stand in the roadway around Shinjuku O-Guard.
  • Keep voices low around Tabata residences and avoid private homes.
  • Follow elevator / rooftop access instructions at Asahi Inari.
  • Do not enter closed areas because an old guide says they were once accessible.
  • Follow waterfront and weather safety instructions in Odaiba.
